Thank you
okay… if you want to improve on listening i recommend watching chinese shows or dramas. start with eng subs and gradually get used to hearing CHinese and feel how CHinese is spoken in real life. if you want to improve speaking, you really need to find someone who knows mandarin and constantly speak with them in mando, like your teacher or a friend. to improve on writing and reading, try to start at easier text them slowly get into the more complicated ones. i take chinese and this is how i improve my skills . i dont know is it helpful, but im currently learning from the prentice hall chinese link chinese book…
there is no such country as Mandaria where all Mandarians must speak Mandarin…
like any other language — no difference at all…
you lean the words, sentence structures and practice usage…
go to China or stay with a people speak Chinese

I think the best method to learn Chinese should be finding a professional school to learn Chinese.
I usually watch the Chinese programs on channel CCTV9 and I think they are good. But it just can be a small step to learn Chinese. The best way to learn Chinese is finding a school. If you want to control time by yourself, I think an online school is a good choice. The class times can be arranged to fit your schedule. If you are interested, you can take a free trial at http://www.eChineseLearning.com/free-trial/index.html?ecl=ptEEEEEEyall031802 and it is completely free. I hope that you can enjoy it. Of course, if you just want some Chinese learning materials or tools, I can recommend some to you:
If you want to look up new words, there is a dictionary at http://www.echineselearning.com/resources/chinese-dictionary/index.html?ecl=ptEEEEEEyall031802 and I think it is a great resource.
If you want to learn Chinese Pinyin, you could have a look at http://www.echineselearning.com/resources/speak-chinese/index.html?ecl=ptEEEEEEyall031802.
If you need some learning materials, you could have a look at http://resources.echineselearning.com/?ecl=ptEEEEEEyall031802.
I hope these resources help you out. If you have more questions, just feel free to email me at jennifer.zhu@echineselearning.com (www.eChineseLearning.com). I will be glad to help you.-Jennifer
I heard the Chinese programs of CCTV 9 are also helpful for Chinese learning.

The big disadvantage with learning from a book is that you dont get to hear the pronunciation, especially the all important tones. I’d recommend using a real life teacher or some multimedia lessons.
Some of the software packages like Rossetta Stone are the most useful approach, although they can be quite expensive. You can find some good free resources online, graspchinese.com has good lessons.
