Cost: $45 / D31 hard sleeper (leg room like biz class on a plane)
$54 / soft sleeper (4 beds in a room)

Nothing is provided. They were bought with money and license. The Japanese shinkansen are not the only ones in operation. The Chinese also bought the Velaro from Germany and the Pendolino from Italy.

In 2011 or 2012, it will cost less than 4 hours to travel from Beijing to Shanghai by train.
